Barely six months since the release of his debut EP, Every Angry Inch, Crooked Saint is heading straight into summer with the release of his second record, the Sweating Bullets EP. Though originally the brainchild of Tim Wheatley as an outlet for his solo work, the Sweating Bullets EP sees Wheatley cementing a full band line up based around long term collaborator and ex Sparrows band-mate Michael Badger (The Demon Parade), drummer Troy Ramaekers and guitarist Johnny Grant. Like Every Angry Inch, Sweating Bullets was co-produced and recorded by Badger in his Jaya Jaya studio’s.
Due in no small part to the natural flow that comes from 4 likeminded people playing together over a period of time, where Every Angry Inch rollicked, Sweating Bullets rolls, the band slotting in seamlessly around Wheatley’s song craft and laconic, candid delivery. From the 12 bar intro’ed west coast guitar inspired storm of opener Lazy Bones through the acoustic elegy of Cast of Yesterday, the bombastic oomph of the title track to the of alt-country tinged twang of five minute closer Man In Waiting, as a cohesive body of work, Sweating Bullets picks up perfectly where Every Angry Inch left off.
As an introduction to Crooked Saint, Every Angry Inch was received exceptionally, as exactly that:
“a wonderfully impressive introduction” - The Dwarf
“All killer, no filler, with a heavy emphasis on ‘all’... if Wheatley can remain this focused and stick to his guns when the time for an LP rolls around the corner, then greatness may be on the horizon” – Ctrl X
“an impressive EP...you get the feeling that this is just a taste of what Tim Wheatley has in store for us. The best is yet to come” – The AU Review
“A darling little EP... sweet without being saccharine, poetic without pretentious” – Tsquat
“It’s the songs themselves, and the honest, unaffected vocals that make Crooked Saint stand apart from the masses of other bands...smart and with a wry sense of humour. The arrangements are well thought out, the lyrics and vocals are ace across the board” – Time Off Magazine
Lead track ‘The Big Easy’ managed to successfully straddle both independent and mainstream radio including interview’s and airplay nationally across both the triple M network and the syndicated ‘Landed’ music program (SEA FM, HOT FM & STAR FM). The EP also received featured spins across triple J, triple R, FBI, PBS and more.
Sweating Bullets is set for release November 4th through Walnut St Records / MGM. To celebrate Crooked Saint will be playing up and down the East Coast over the next eight weeks, both in full band and solo mode. The full band shows will include the Melbourne EP launch Fri Oct 21 @ Revolver Upstairs and a gargantuan performance at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney for the final Championship Series Event in The 2011 V8 Supercars.
